Abstract
The B-spline field approximation method is applied to the free vibration of straight Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beams. Both C0 and C1 discretizations of the Timoshenko beam are considered. The vibration characteristics of these models are compared with traditional finite element models; the B-spline method is found to out perform the finite element method.
