Abstract
A nonlinear finite element model is proposed in order to analyse reinforced concrete frames. The finite element adopted is constituted by an elastic beam, having axial and flexural stiffness, connected to nodes by means of two potential generalised plastic hinges, having rigid-perfectly plastic behaviour. Activation of plastic hinges occurs as internal forces reach the interaction diagram of the cross-section. The model calculates collapse load, as well as displacements, internal forces, reactions and plastic hinge rotations throughout a load incremental procedure. On the basis of the proposed model a computer program was developed and tested by comparison with numerical data available in literature.
