Abstract
A finite difference (FD) model based on one-dimensional transient flow of energy and a general finite element (FE) program ABAQUS were employed to investigate the cooling properties of HMA. The results compared favorably with those obtained from the field measurements. Thus, the time required to open a roadway to traffic can be estimated from the nomographs developed. It is concluded that the numerical model can be used to develop nomographs including various environmental factors and HMA and base properties.
