Abstract
We extend our research in meta-database to one for a more general meta-system which can support automated design of system. The central concept is about how to manage mechanical abstraction in a system design. We present the concept of variable-based abstraction and discuss its representation, methodology and mechanization. We demonstrate how object-oriented database management system can be taken as a mechanical environment to support the design of the meta-system.
