Abstract
The report describes a theoretical and an experimental investigation into the vibration of three machined thin-walled circular conical shells under external water pressure.

The theoretical investigation, where both the structure and the fluid were mathematically modelled by finite elements, showed good agreement with the experimental work.

The experimental work involved the successful use of a variable inductance non-contact transducer to monitor the magnitudes and modes of the resonant frequencies.
