Abstract
The aim of this work is to present a quadrangular finite element for slab analysis. This element, named DKQ-4T, has 3 degree of freedom at each node and is obtained from four triangular finite elements (DKT) which have a common node at the centre of the quadrangle. The stiffness matrix for this group of elements is initially assembled and further is modified in order to get a quadrangular element with nodes only at its corners. Results of the analysis of single plates and slabs are presented and they are compared with those of the analytical solutions or those computed with other finite elements.
