Abstract
A domain decompostion method for large scale structural optimization is proposed. A block diagonal preconditioning scheme is used to partition the structural model into a number of smaller subsystems and to approximate the state variables. In this two level approach the optimization is done on the lower level, on the upper level the coordination of the subsystems is performed by approximating the Lagrange multipliers of the optimality criteria.
