Abstract
This work presents the initial development of a digital twin framework for structural health monitoring and predictive maintenance of the Città dello Sport in Rome, designed by Santiago Calatrava. A high-fidelity finite element model is constructed from detailed geometric and material data derived from BIM and survey information. Modal analysis is performed to extract the structural dynamic features, forming the basis for a preliminary optimal sensor placement strategy. Sensor locations are determined using a sparse sensing approach based on QR factorization with column pivoting applied to a reduced-order basis of mode shapes. Two configurations are considered, targeting the reconstruction of the first ten and twenty modes. The results indicate that the method concentrates sensors in dynamically informative regions, enabling accurate reconstruction of the global structural response.
