Abstract
Abnormal wear of pantograph strips is a key reliability problem in urban rail systems using rigid catenary power supply. This short paper summarizes a data-driven and experimental study based on long-term maintenance data from Tianjin Metro Line 6, microscopic observations, correlation analysis, and ring-on-block tests. The results show a three-stage wear evolution process: normal wear, mild abnormal wear, and severe abnormal wear. Low relative humidity, especially below 35%, and insufficient contact force trigger mild arcing, carbon-film depletion, surface roughening, material transfer, and finally severe arc ablation. The findings provide a concise mechanism and maintenance guidance for metro pantograph-catenary interfaces.
