Summary
The coefficient of friction is one of the most important factors in the contact mechanics of wheel/rail interaction. In a wet condition, each wheelset has a different coefficient of friction, which is less than the dry condition. Although this fact is well known, there are few studies on railway vehicle dynamics that consider friction characteristics in the wet condition. In this paper, the coefficient of friction is calculated using a numerical model of the elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication. By applying the coefficient of friction obtained for each wheelset in the model, the braking performance of the railway vehicle in the wet condition is simulated. The measurement of the liquid film on the rail by using the scaled model experiment was performed.
