Summary
This paper deals with the problem of the Bayesian estimation of the parameters of probability distributions when the prior information about the possible values of these parameters is imprecise. When fuzzy sets are used for the calculation of fuzzy Bayes estimators required computational procedures may be very demanding. In order to avoid these problems we propose to use optimal approximations of fuzzy numbers by the shadowed sets introduced by Pedrycz. The use of these approximations dramatically simplifies all required computations.
