Summary
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) performs research in the areas of aerospace, energy, security and ground transportation. The DLR's next generation train project (NGT) addresses questions about how trains of the future can reduce travel times and be made safer, more comfortable and more environmentally-friendly. One part of this project is NGT Link, a fast regional and intercity train which is designed to incorporate many innovations and future technologies and improve travel times and comfort, all while maintaining compatibility with existing infrastructure. Quick passenger changeovers and powerful distributed traction allow for fast travel while efficiency is guaranteed by very lightweight double-deck car bodies, a low drag coefficient and a vehicle concept that eschews traditional, heavy bogies in favour of single-wheel single-wheelsets with integrated electric motors.
