Summary
This paper presents a numerical model for evaluating the performance of a reinforced concrete (RC) column under fire conditions. In this research, the numerical model was developed using the non-linear finite element program, ANSYS. The RC column was simulated under fire by subjecting it to ISO 834 standard fire temperatures and coupled (thermal to structural) field analysis was executed. The model was validated by comparing the results with a full-scale RC column fire test. Details of the finite element model, time dependent temperature distribution, temperature dependent deformation and temperature dependent stress distribution are presented. The results show good agreement with the fire test and can be used to evaluate the performance of a RC column subject to fire.
