Abstract
A numerical model of the frame, which takes into account the real stiffness and nonlinear behaviour of joints, is described herein. Joints are included into the model as super-elements with automatic finite-element mesh generation. On the base of the model developed the iterative algorithm of optimum material distribution among the frame members is constructed. The design of multi-storey plane frame is presented as an example.
